If you are already in danger of being escaped somebody’s notice despite of visible clothing and reflectors or lights in the hectic traffic, the acoustic warning by bell remains the only solution. This is why a bell belong to the basic equipment of a safety bicycle. Unfortunately, on modern bicycles with the rationale of the optics or aerodynamics bells have been waived. On older bikes you usually have to struggle with rusty, bent bells or bells that have been slipped on the handlebar to such an extent that it is no longer functional or usable.
